Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ w as a business owner. He made and sold candies! Ha! In 1950, God lead him to share the gospel with Fraternity Houses. He literally knocked on doors and asked if he can share the greatest news he’s ever experienced. That year, dozens of frat brothers and some of their Sorority girlfriends came to Christ! In 1951, he sold his business and formally founded Cru, going into it full-time!
Ever since the start, the vision has been, as Mr. Bright would say, “Reach the campus today to reach the world with the gospel tomorrow!” Amen! College students become world leaders in all different fields, and they can bring the gospel as influencers to those fields.
On campus, our strategy for reaching our schools is simply “Win // Build // Send.” We just digitally had our statewide student summit on Friday 9/11 where we were able to train NJ student leaders how to do this well. See image!

“Win” is evangelism, either through bold initiative evangelism, large campus outreaches or even just fostering a culture of natural evangelism with friends, classmates and professors. “Build” is students’ growth in Christ, which can happen during weekly Bible teachings or studies, small groups, prayer, in community and even during discipleship with staff coaches. Cru also hosts a statewide Jersey gathering, fall and winter conferences as well! All this is to help students grow in Christ! Finally, “Send” is all about being missionaries everywhere! This is not reserved only for pastors and full-time Christian “missionaries.” It’s for every believer! Students can go on Spring Break or summer missions almost anywhere in the world, but also, we dearly want them to graduate with a heart to reach the lost in their families, neighborhoods, workplaces and serve their church’s as well!
This mission excites us to the core! We pray and hope it excites you! Please pray with us and the rest of the staff team that our students would once again “get it” and go for it! We are here to resource and equip them in all three parts of the strategy, but they must own it! Also praise the Lord for your prayers from last month’s letter! God has provided new student leaders at Ramapo College, Seton Hall Univ. and New Jersey City University! Hudson County Community College still needs at least one student to step out in faith, but we have many members who want a movement. And Stevens Institute of Technology is doing well! Pray for my short talk I get to teach there on October 14th. Thank you!
