San Diego, July 4th, Prayer Calendar

At the end of June, Jenn the kids and I got to go to San Diego for International Student Inc’s national staff conference. It was really life-giving and encouraging. The scenery and weather wasn’t too bad either !

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was simply being with hundreds of other staff from across the country all committed to reaching and serving international students with the love of Christ. The role God has called us to in the Kingdom is definitely particular and niche, but we are not alone! Another one of my favorite parts was a breakout session about ISI’s efforts and desire to establish movements in other countries; it’s just exciting to hear about this new venture. Jenn of course loved the conference also. She says her favorite session was a teaching on how “self-care” is not “selfish care” as long as it is done from our heart’s desire to honor the Sabbath. God wants us to rest, as long as we are resting in Him.

Even our kids had their own child tract dedicated for them to learn about missions and the life of Joseph. They loved being with kids their age at the conference! Of course they also loved the pool, the delicious food and the San Diego Zoo! We are thankful and energized by ISI’s national staff conference !

Another update we wanted to share about was a successful July 4th party right in our backyard! About 35 students and volunteers got to enjoy not only burgers and hot dogs but also an array of multicultural food from Italy, India, China, Egypt, and the Dominican Republic ! We had a great time and ended the night with a fire pit, warm cookies and sparklers! What a fun time. One thing we noticed is just how many alumni joined us! Many still live locally while they search for work in a tough market. Pray the seeds of the gospel sowed in their years with us will eventually shake, stir and burst forth for years to come!

Finally – please pray for our 40 Days of Prayer calendar! It will be created to prepare for the new semester. We are working on this, but I cannot stress just how valuable it would be to have you join us in prayer by using this calendar. I will send out a separate email and post about it on the blog when it’s ready. Thank you!
