Having Fun for Christ

One of the elements of our ministry model are field trips. Once a month for almost the entire year we are taking students to do various activities. This is an undertaking that requires volunteer drivers, registrations, scouting locations, figuring out the cost, and other details like timing and food. The principle behind this element is to simply have fun. We want to show students that Christians can laugh and enjoy life even while we are serious about Christ, the cross and the gospel we are presenting to them.

What’s great about these opportunities is they help grow relationships with our regulars and even introduce us to new students who have not been to any of our typical ministry activities. Many students meet us at a field trip and then join us at a Bible study. It’s great !

The most recent field trip we hosted was “Sports Day” where we were able to bring 21 students to a private gym at Hawthorne Gospel Church! We held tournaments for kickball, volleyball, basketball and cricket ! The fun lasted from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and of course we enjoyed lunch together. In addition to our own field trips, sometimes other churches invite our students to their activities. We still help organize and connect students, but we may not be able to go. Saturday June 15th, we were able to organize this for Christ Church Rockaway’s annual County Fair. The students had a blast.

Another fun emphasis that International Students Inc encourages is for us to stay connected with alumni – whether that is local, in another state or even international ! We are looking forward to an opportunity to go abroad to visit the countries and cities of our former students. But most recently one alumni named Babafemi married his fiance Pelumi in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a super fun weekend, and an intimate but lively Nigerian wedding. My favorite part was the jollof rice and of course the ceremony itself!

Please continue to pray for us as we prepare to go to San Diego from June 22-27 for ISI’s national staff conference. The whole family is going, including the kids. They see it as a vacation even though we will be plenty busy at various lectures and training sessions. Pray also for all other field trips we have planned this summer along with the many Bible studies our ministry is overseeing. Thank you!.

If you would like to give a one-time gift to help cover the cost of this valuable ministry conference in San Diego, you can do so with the link below. Thank you!
