Most international students come alone without family or friends. They need to find roommates, find their own apartments and learn the ropes of living in America. When hardship strikes, it can be a very scary time. I’ve shared about previous instances involving house fires, but the most recent involved a trip to the ER.

Veronica, a devout Hindu student active in our ministry (pseudonym for privacy), was heading to her final exam one sunny May day, enjoying her usual e-Scooter ride. Tragically, she was hit by a car, leading to a fall and a serious head injury. Rushed to the ER, doctors found brain bleeding and a skull fracture. Despite appearing conscious, she has no recollection of the accident or her hospital arrival.
By God’s grace, and after several days in the hospital, Veronica is on the way to a full recovery. Every step of the way, members of our ministry stepped up to help Veronica. One of our Christian students named Rohan happened to be walking by at the scene of the accident. That night as soon as I was able, I made my way over to the ER to talk things over with the doctors and nurses. The next day myself and other staff and volunteers made sure to visit, pray and prepare for whatever outcome. Praise God for this team and the work we were able to put in – informing the school, calling the car insurance, getting the police report etc etc. Veronica is back in her apartment now with very kind helpful friends as roommates. Please pray for her as she continues to heal, as she worries about the cost for this accident and as she works with the insurance to hopefully get it covered. Pray also for Christ to use this experience to really help Veronica see how much he loves and cares for her!

It’s graduation season! While it’s a mix of joy and sadness as we celebrate our students’ achievements and bid them farewell, one graduate, Roman Dodia, holds a special place in our hearts. He was the first Hindu student I guided to Christ, a pivotal moment that led Jenn and me to join International Students Inc. Despite attending a different school, Roman has been deeply involved in our ministry at Stevens Institute of Technology, supported by his parents on a student visa. We also celebrated the graduation for Stevens students, hosting a spontaneous dinner at my church. Let’s lift all our graduates in prayer as they navigate a challenging job market, and ask for strength for our Christian graduates and for the seeds of faith sown in non-believers to flourish.

Finally, pray for our summer plans! So much to look forward to ! We have at least one field trip per month. We also have two Bible studies for Christians and two for non-believers. Virtually and in person ! Also at the end of June, the whole family and I are headed to San Diego for the ISI national staff conference. Pray for a safe trip and for all our summer activities !
